Spade plays Joe Dirt, the lead character in the movie, an idiot who works as an oil weller and is searching for his parents, who abandoned him when he was a baby at the grand canyon.
Spade got the inspiration for his new movie after meeting Buddy “Bud” Lancaster of State College, PA during a visit to the backwater town last summer.

“I could not believe a man was walking down the street like that,” recalls Spade, “However, then I realized that I am in State College, and I figured I could bring this man to the big screen to show the world just exactly how people in this town live.”
Buddy, now 30 years old, was born in State College where he currently works as a bouncer at the Crowbar. He spends his time collecting shirts from such bands as Anthrax, Warrent, Iron Maiden, and Winger.
“I am thrilled to be portrayed by David in the movie,” comment Mr. Lancaster, “To make a story based on my life brings tears to my eyes. I hope he has the same respect for me that I do for him.
People around State College are thrilled about the new release saying the movie represents one of their own.
“We’re basically just a beer drinking, NASCAR watching town,” stated 82-year-old State College Resident Charles Batch, “Joe Dirt epitomizes a good State College resident, and I’m sure people will be idolizing this movie for many years to come.”
