Surprisingly, Summer Job At McDonalds "Really Sucks"
By Winnie Fooslager
STATE COLLEGE, PA-- Trent Baxter expected this to be a summer that he would never forget; instead, it's a summer filled with misery as his job at McDonald's is currently not meeting his expectations.

On May 27, 2001, Baxter's summer got off to a good start when he applied for a job at the College Avenue McDonald's. He considered himself “extremely lucky” when they hired him on the spot.
"I was stoked," Baxter explains, "A job in a high tech food industry making $7.00 an hour. I thought this would be a summer to look back on with glee."
However, the job at McDonald's has not been as much fun as Baxter initially expected.
"Deep frying French fries and making burgers for six hours a day isn't exactly my idea of a McFuckin’ good time," said a visibly frustrated Baxter. "I wanted to be rich by this time. My last paycheck was $153.16. This blows."
Apparently Baxter was misled by the terms "career advancement", "fun atmosphere" and "a great place to work" that were on the McDonald's application. In addition, the words “We Value You, Your Growth
and Your Contributions” do not seem to apply.
“I think they value how many burgers I can put ketchup on in an hour,” states an exasperated Baxter. “I think the growth they are talking about is when you graduate first from making hamburgers, then to making cheeseburgers, and then to the grand daddy of them all, the Big Mac.”
Fellow McDonald's employee Nancy Libers can't empathize with Baxter, as she finds working at McDonalds highly rewarding and fulfilling.
"I've been working at McDonald's for fourteen, no wait, fifteen years now, and I love it every minute of it ," explains Libers. "Cleaning up the puke of drunk people, smelling like hamburgers at the end of the day, what a great job!"
McDonald's is still hiring for the summer. Prospective employees can visit the downtown State College McDonald's and apply in person.
