Alumnus Attempts to Rekindle Lost Romance
By Anthony Genna
Philadelphia, PA-- Although their relationship ended 10 years ago and lasted a mere 5 months, Scott Klemmens ('01 - Food Science) still has hopes of reviving the relationship he once shared with former love of his life Kathleen Mendelson ('00 - Communications).
Klemmens can't wait for his former flame to meet the "new, improved Scott."
Klemmens recounted their first encounter at a fraternity party in downtown State College during the former couple's Freshman year. "The Beast Ice was flowing, so I don't recall 100%, but I know I saw Kathleen there that night. The rest as they say is history, if you know what i mean, 'his story'."
In the years since their initial meeting, Klemmens has lost contact with Mendelson, his weekly e-mails to her not having received a reply in nearly a decade.
"I think she is just busy, very busy, so I understand," said a confident Klemmens. "If she knew the passion and desire I had for her, she would reply."
Mendelson has not contacted Klemmens since graduation, but that has not deterred him, as he follows her actions "almost daily" on Facebook and Myspace. By keeping up with Mendelson's updates on social networking sites, he has discovered that she is currently teaching English in Taiwan.
"A suprise visit is the way to go. Back when we were dating, I wasn't as mature as I am now" reflected Klemmens, now sporting a half-bald head and a 42-inch waist. "I think I have changed for the better, now she will be able to see the new me."
"I only wish I could drive to see her in my 2006 Honda Accord, rather than the '93 Lumina I used to drive. She would see I made a lot of myself from the boy she once knew". Instead, Klemmens will fly to Taiwan where he plans to 'casually run into her' by waiting outside of the building where she teaches.
When contacted by the Stump, Mendelson admitted she hasn't been completely in the dark about Klemmens' life since graduation. "I do check his Facebook page from time to time. It sounds cold, but I have to admit it feels good to see how far I have come since college, and to see how little he has changed by comparison. Sure, he has a little more money and a little less hair now, but he's definitely still the same immature guy I knew back then."
